Photographing a saxophone restorer/repairer in Brighton last summer opened a new world for me. That of individual craft workshops that are possibly endangered. There are various reasons for this - shortage of skilled craftspersons, few or no apprentices, little or no demand for the service or products, accommodation difficulties and so on. I'm disturbed and disappointed that skills developed over many years can quickly disappear, and so I am now working on a project to find and record such artisans who are still employing their craft.
The images on this page are just a very small selection from the many I have taken at each workshop, over numerous locations. New visits are planned over the coming months, so more images will be added to the website.
With many thanks to the artisans who were kind enough to allow me into their work spaces and generous with their time, and to those participants who I am yet to visit.
